B.A.T. repeated by Torretta and Morandi
B.A.T. Basic Absurd Technology, repeated by Anna Torretta and Erika Morandi on the Caporal, Valle dell'Orco, Italy
Anna Torretta and Erika Morandi have made the second repeat of the modern aid route B.A.T. in the Valle dell'Orco, Italy. Basically Absurd Technology was first climbed by Valerio Folco and Massimo Farina in October 2002, and repeated in summer 2003 by Elena Davila, Anna Lazzarini and Silvestro Stucchi. The overhanging 5 pitch route is graded A3. The two women travelled for a week, spending five nights on the wall. Torretta, who made a solo repeat of the Zodiac last year, recalls: "It really seemed as if I was on the massive El Capitan. The view changed incredibly the higher we climbed, and the ropes and aiders always hung free. I started climbing in the Valle dellOrco, and although I've climbed on the Caporal many times previously, I had never realised that the wall overhung so steeply. And I'd never thought I'd climb the Caporal in Big wall style!"
