The first free ascent dates back to June 2014, the video has gone online now: Alexander Megos climbing Modified, a 9a+ the 20-year-old freed in Germany’s Frankenjura in… just three hours.

At the time we restated that the first 9b in the Frankenjura is no longer that far off and in the meantime Megos replied by investing 5 days into Supernova, his hardest climb so far. The UIAA grade for Supernova is a straight 11+, the first of its kind which translates as 9a+/9b on the French scale. So the first straight 9b might need a few more days yet.
