Mondinelli heads for Makalu
On 26 March the Italian Silvio Mondinelli left Italy together with his climbing partner Mario Merelli to climb Makalu via the Normal route.

| On 26 March the Italian Silvio Mondinelli left Italy together with his climbing partner Mario Merelli to climb Makalu via the Normal route. First ascended in 1955 by a French expedition, the two Italians will join forces with three Spaniards - Edurne Pasaban, Joseba Gutierrez and Francisco Valencia - and two Austrians. At present the expediditon members are trekking to base camp, and they plan their summit bid between 12-16 May. Manuel Lugli  |
