Ski mountaineering tips by CAMP

Using skis going up and down: experience the mountains in winter to the nth degree, with tips provided by C.A.M.P.

A big queue has formed at the ski lift. People are jam packed, pushing and shoving while they wait for their turn. All of a sudden a girl appears: she is dressed in pale blue and will not stop to join the queue. She carries on and goes up, effortlessly moving her skis as if she were walking, raising eyebrows among the onlookers. You can find out the rest of the story in the 1959 novella by Italo Calvino. The superb writer, a maestro of style and prose, shares his own take on ski mountaineering, transcending it to a series of images.

What are we waiting for? Let’s follow the example of the young lady, coming up close with the real mountains in winter, with switchbacks going up and soft turns going down. Ski mountaineering will open the doors to a new world, a voyage into nature and ourselves, by far the best way to access the secrets of the snow-covered universe. Together with C.A.M.P., everything becomes even more exciting: our products have been conceived to make the most of your mountain experiences. Try the new Ski Drop poles with a teardrop section, the Ski Raptor 20 pack, which will work wonders for freeride as well, or the Alp CR harness, whose credo is extreme lightness.

SKI DROP POLES
Telescopic aluminum pole designed for ski-mountaineering. The innovative teardrop section, in addition to reducing weight, ensures exceptional stability of the segments, preventing the lower one from rotating. In this way, the handle and the basket always remain perfectly aligned with each other, correctly oriented in the direction of progression. The new Winter Basket, characterized by an asymmetrical design that offers a large support surface and by an elongated shape with a carbide tip, is particularly effective on steep slopes (where it does not leverage on the snow).
• Adjustable from 89 to 135 cm
• Lower segment graduated to easily identify the desired length
• Teardrop section for lighter weight and perfect basket-handle alignment
• Innovative Winter Basket with an elongated shape and carbide tip
• Woman version available
• Weight/pair 480 g

SKI RAPTOR 20 PACK
The 20-liter version of the Ski Raptor is designed for lighter, faster freeride missions. The Ski Raptor 20 builds on our years of designing purpose-built packs for specific adventures. Constructed from 420D ripstop nylon for incredible durability. The X-Press ski carrying system allows skis to be attached and removed without removing the pack. The tail loop for the X- Press ski carrying system can be set in two positions making it
easy to insert skis whether the pack is fully loaded or mostly empty. Skis can also be carried laterally with straps on the sides.
• X-Press ski carrying system with Tubular Rewind
• Side entry crampon pocket is easily accessed without removing the pack
• Dual hide-away ice axe carriers
• Hide-away elastic mesh helmet carrying system
• Ergonomic and ventilated back panel with a wide Full BackDoor opening
• Hydration compatible
• Weight 790 g

ALP CR HARNESS
The innovative construction of the Alp CR uses super light and breathable nylon monofilament combined with exceptionally durable and abrasion-resistant high strength polyethylene. Adjustable leg loops ensure a precise fit and allow the harness to adapt to layers. The harness can be put on and taken off without removing skis or crampons. The elastic cord on the waist is detachable and the auto-locking
aluminum alloy buckles on the leg loops can be unthreaded so they open completely. The elastic rise adjustment cord for the leg loops is secured by a knot to prevent the leg loops from creeping down.
• Super light and compact harness for ski-mountaineering
• Construction uses nylon monofilament and high strength UHMW polyethylene
• Adjustable waist belt with elastic cord
• Adjustable leg loops with 7075 T6 aluminum alloy buckles
• Hypalon® slots for removable gear loops and Hub racking carabiners
• 3 sizes available
• Weight 94 g (M size)
