Austrian photographer Josef Stefan has won the people’s choice Award of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026 for his photograph of a playful lynx in Ciudad Real, Spain. A 85,917 votes were cast.

The online, global voting campaign for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year people’s choice Award is now online. 24 images have been shortlisted from over 60,000 entries. Voting closes on Wednesday 18 March, the winning photograph and the four runners-up will be announced on Wednesday 25 March

Nepal's Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita has been nominated National Geographic people’s choice Adventurer of the Year 2016. Apart from being a highly talented mountainer, Pasang Lhamu distinguished herself for her role in relief efforts after the country suffered a severe earthquake in April 2015.

Spanish skyrunning ultrarunner Kilian Jornet Burgada has been named the 2014 National Geographic people’s choice Adventurer of the Year.
