Rich Simpson makes 5th ascent of Hubble 8c+
On 25 April by 21 year old Richard Simpson made the 5th ascent of Hubble 8c+, Raven Tor UK, first climbed by Ben Moon in 1990. Update 12/2010: Simpson's ascent of Hubble has been contested by diverse sources.
| Hubble, the world's first 8c+, was repeated on 25 April by 21 year old Richard Simpson. The landmark 10m line is located at Raven Tor (UK) and was first climbed way back in 1990 by British climber Ben Moon. What makes Simpson's recent ascent noteworthy is that his is only the 5th ascent in the route's fifteen year history (Malcolm Smith (1992), John Gaskins (1994) and Steve Dunning). In a day and age when grades continue to rise and the pace of extreme repeats quickens, Hubble seems to have withstood the severe test of time. On that note, how long must we wait until the line receives its first international repeat? UPDATE 12/2010 Rich Simpson's ascent of Hubble has been contested by diverse sources, including ukclimbing.
