It's a well-known fact that when sport climbing athletes are finally free from their World Cup commitments, practically nothing stands in their way. And so, a month after the last competition at Kranj, Mina Markovič now checks in with two noteworthy ascents at Oliana in Spain. The first is a fast repeat of Fish Eye, the "classic" 8c at the crag that, for the record, happens to be Markovič's first 8c. This is all the more surprising since the climber from Lubiana has won the Lead World Cup twice and is therefore easily capable of this, and possibly far more.
Yesterday Markovič proved the point with her second important ascent this winter season, Los Humildes pa casa. This route is 8b+ and was climbed by Markovic in the most "noble" manner, the one that leaves no room for errors... onsight! With this outstanding achievement Markovic is now up there among the best female onsight results of all times. It is worth remembering that the maximum female onsight is somewhere in the region of 8b+, first achieved by Josune Bereziartu at Montsant back in 2006 and onsighted in the meantime by very few others.
