Cristina Brenna spent part of January bouldering around Italy, repeating some classics at Meschia, Il Cubo and, just north of the border in Switzerland, Cresciano.

First stop, Italy’s bouldering sanctuary Meschia. The 6m arête
"Passo Mambo", climbed by Mauro Calibani and graded 8a+, falls to both Marzio Nardi and then, just before nightfall, Brenna who reaches the finishing holds and then “screams for joy: the best boulder I’ve ever climbed”.

Next in line, Cresciano. Stated aim, Fred Nicole’s slabby 8a
"Jeux de mains, jeux de villains..." After about three hours and a thousand attempts this too falls to Brenna and climbing companion Enrico Baistrocchi.

Final stop, Il Cubo, a place unjustly neglected by most boulderers. Marzio Nardi adds the logical sit-down start to
"Megalomen", pushing this up to 8a+. More info and a map of Il Cubo can be found under: http://www.bsidezone.it
