Cascata di Rochemolles, Val di Susa, Italy
A splendid icefall first ascended by M. Bernardi, G.C. Grassia and F. Salino almost 30 years ago at Vallone di Rochemolles (Val di Susa, Piemonte, Italy).

On the fourth pitch of Cascata di Rochemolles, Val di Susa, Italy.

The 220m high Cascata di Rochemolles is a beautiful, class outing first ascended by none other than Gian Carlo Grassi, Marco Bernardi and F. Salino. Almost 30 years have passed since the first ascent, remembered here by Elio Bonfanti who recently repeated the superb route.

A single word of warning: the icefall can only be climbed in safety after an extended freeze and little fresh snow on the upper slopes. Knowing how to wait for the right conditions is imperative therefore, just like with all icefalls. But this is an integral (and extremely important) part of this extraordinary game!
