Italian alpinist Hervé Barmasse is to receive the Golden Beard award as Best Adventurer 2014 thanks to his vast array of outstanding ascents such as the first solo winter enchainment of the Matterhorn, and also thanks to his style of climbing. Although a modern alpinist, Barmasse is deeply rooted to tradition, a climber capable of becoming a role model for future generations also thanks to his in-depth mountain knowledge and culture that is far removed from a simple grade or physical performance.

Emilio Previtali will receive the Golden Beard award as Best Storyteller 2014, thanks to the role he played during the Nanga Parbat expedition and his ability to transform stories into something real, with humor and a light touch, far removed from the rhetorical. Previtali will be at Livigno on 24 and 25 July for the "Storytelling" workshop aimed at outdoor pros, both those involved in communication and those who love to invent and recount stories.

Emilio and Hervé will receive their awards from Danilo Callegari, the explorer from Pordenone who received the prize in 2013 and who is currently preparing his new expedition to Africa.

The Golden Beard is an award that alludes, ironically and as the name suggests, to the adventurers' beard as a defense against the elements. Every year the award is created by a young designer, this year from Giacomo Mara.

Barmasse and Previtali will be on stage at Livigno's Cinelux on Friday 25 at 21.15 together with Vinicio Stefanello, editor of Planetmountain.com. The evening discussion will be "From Ulysses to google earth: what is adventure today?": This is a great opportunity to ask about the meaning of discovery in an age where seeming everything is accessible and attainable; an opportunity to think about the value of adventure and its more modern meaning, an opportunity to address the issue of the need to build modern heroes, starting from the experience and the intelligence of the two winners.

The evening is free of charge. The full program of the Adventure Awards Days festival, dedicated to adventure and exploration, is online on www.adventureawards.it
