Spirit: second on-sight for Manolo
on 05/08 Maurizio "Manolo" Zanolla" made the second on-sight of Spirit, (Cima Merionale, Cime d'Auta, Dolomites).
![]() Less than a week after Riccardo Scarians first on-sight, Maurizio Zanolla, alias Manolo, repeated Spirit in the same fashion. The Dolomite route was first ascended by Massimo da Pozzo and Danilo Serafini on the south Face of Cima Orientale, Cime DAuta, in September 2003 and graded (max 7c+/8a, 7b obbl.). This second on-sight was carried out in less than four hours and, according to Manolo, the route is truly fantastic. Congratulations to the first ascentionists, too. Spirit or elegance by Manolo Cima d'Auta is a very particular mountain which quietly fills the gap between the Pale di San Martino and her majesty the Marmolada. But the elegance undoubtedly lies above all in its southern section, where the face drops down onto steep alpine meadows in an extraordinary environment which does its best to remain hidden from view. I went to repeat Spirit because I was told it was a great route and I was not disappointed a must-do line on a mountain that really should be discovered. In making a sincere compliment to the first ascentionists I would like to add that the only thing I didnt like about the route is that I wasnt the first to climb it. ![]() ![]()
