Mantel Ice - Cima Mantello
A superb climb on Cima Mantello: water ice in the first pitches and then a gully almost all the way to the summit. The ambient where the drip is located is incredible, completely out of this world… no SAT trail nearby, only a track used for some climbs and by hunters.
The route starts from Muncion (1510 m), a village just above Mazzin, where you take trail #579, climbing up Val Udai. After about 45 minutes, reach a small clearing where you encounter the large landslide of 1993. Climb up it for a short distance until you see a huge cairn and a large boulder with a red marker on the right, at the edge of the forest. This is where the trail begins that allows you to bypass the rocky outcrop of Zocol and reach the Soscorza waterfalls. When you reach the cairn with the sign saying “falesia” (cliff), turn left and follow the trail to the ford, which is a few metres from the waterfall. The remains of an old metal cable (be careful) on the banks confirm that you are on the right track. Climb up the right bank through steep slopes until you reach the base of the waterfall. (2.20h)
