Route

The wild and beautiful Valle delle Laures, located within the mountain comunity Monte Emilius, was one of the first areas to be developed by ice climbers, and the first icefalls date back to the early 1980's. The icefalls are situated above the village Grand Brissogne and can easily be made out from the motorway exit Aosta East. They come into condition early on in the season and there are 7 routes to choose from. The first three (the first you come across on the left as you enter the valley) happen to be the most interesting routes. “The day after”, the third from the left, climbs two steps (the first is 100m high) whcih are followed by a single final pitch up beautiful steep ice.
Getting there
Take the motorway and exit at Aosta East, then continue along the highway SS 26 towards Turin for circa 5 km to reach Quart. Cross the river here and continue first to Brissogne, then on to Grand Brissogne. Reach the village and turn off right after 400m at the hairpin bend (Bar Laures on the right) where the road levels off. Follow this small road to a fork and keep left until the the icefalls spring into view after about 2km. In case of heavy snowfall this final stretch may have to be done on foot. Access
Continue on foot up to the valley. The icefall is the first from the left. Descent
Abalakov or tree abseil, or exit and walk down the path through the woods. Gear
Normal ice climbing gear.
