Monte Pore, with its large iron summit cross, stands out like an immense white, beckoning pyramid above Passo Giau. The best way to answer its call is to put on snowshoes and walk to the summit – although demanding, it’s definitely highly satisfying.
Getting there
From Cortina drive to Passo Giau along the SS 638. Access
Continue down from Passo Giau towards Selva di Cadore ? Colle S. Lucia and park at the chairlift and refuge at Fedare (2000m). Itinerary
From Rif. Fedare walk west to a beautiful small white church. Continue up easy slopes past wooden huts used to store hay in summer. Head left towards the crest and then follow this to the summit. High winds may render this section icy and difficult – keep well away from the crest line proper as this may be corniced. Once on the summit enjoy the fantastic 360° panorama – unique and incomparable in beauty. Descent
Descend along the line of ascent. Gear
Normal equipment for winter walking, snowshoes and poles, lightweight crampons. Difficulty
Snowpack must be well bonded and stable.
