Dolomites Master Climbing, the results

Three competitions in three days decide Dolomites Master Climbing
The second edition of the Dolomites Master Climbing took place in Corvara, Ortisei and Campitello last weekend. The peculiarity of the competition formula, three events held in three different villages over a three day period, had proven to be immensely successful last year, and this year was no different.

Italy's best lined up for the first event in Corvara, Val Badia, on Friday evening. Cristian Brenna placed first ahead of Luca Zardini (on top form after his recent 8c+/9a first ascent) and the defending European Youth Champion Flavio Crespi. The women's event was won by the defending Italian Champion Jenny Lavarda, ahead of Martina Artioli, second, and Claudia Salvadori, third.

The focus then shifted to nearby Ortisei in Val Gardena on Saturday evening, where Alberto Gnerro took first place ahead of Zardini and Cominotti. Lavarda proved unbeatable once again, leaving Artioli to settle for second place ahead of Donati, third.

Sunday's final event in Campitello, Val di Fassa, was decisive as the overall title was still up for grabs. The men's route, with 72 moves and a leap from one wall down to the next, was spectacular to say the least. Zardini dominated this event and in doing so clinched overall victory, while Cominotti placed second ahead of Gnerro and Brenna third equal. No change for the women: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place were identical to Ortisei, enabling Lavarda to walk off with a merited overall victory.

The Dolomites Master Climbing proved, once again, to be a huge success. The competitors loved it and, judging by the number of enthusiastic onlookers, so did the crowds!
