The wait is finally over: after months of preparation, this morning the Lead World Cup Lead 2015 finally gets underway with the first stage Chamonix. All the best athletes in the world are expected in the small French town at the foot of Mont Blanc, first and foremost last year’s winners Jakob Schubert to Jain Kim, Sean McColl and Mina Markovic and Adam Ondra and Magdalena Röck.

For many athletes the appointment in Chamonix is twice as difficult, as for the first time ever the competition will also act as the European Championship, won last time in 2013 by Frenchman Romain Desgranges and Russia's Dinara Fakhritdinova. The choice to host two events in just one - ie. the Lead World Cup and European Championship at the same time - has raised some eyebrows and may prove very complex indeed, but one thing is certain: it’s going to be a bread weekend of climbing. Also because Chamonix also hosts the fourth stage of the Speed World Cup and a stage of the Paraclimbing World Cup.
