Kalymnos: the new crag Prophitis Andreas and Space Walk, the island's easiest multi-pitch

Sport climbing development on Kalymnos shows no sign of slowing down and new routes continue to be added across the Dodecanese island. One of the latest addition to its already immense repertoire of sport crags is Prophitis Andreas, a broad outcrop set in stunning location at the top of the road leading to Palionisos that has "everything it takes to become one of the major climbing crags of Kalymnos."Discovered a few years ago by André Langenbach, bolting began in . 2012 by Langenbach together with with Bruno Fara, Roger Runacher and Luca Salsotto. At present the crag hosts 40 routes from 5a to 8a and the potential for more is enormous.

The other interesting news to come from Kalymnos is that to climb the easiest multi-pitch route, you will no longer have to make the brief crossing across the Aegean sea to Telendos to climb Wings for Life. This 220m high, superbly popular 5c had been established by the Swissmen Peter Keller and Urs Odermatt in 2008 and while the duo struck again with their six-pitch 3 Stripes (5c, 175m) to the left of sector Spartacus, the prize for the island's easiest climb now goes to Adrian Berry and Gareth Parry with their Space Walk. After having bolted what will probably be the hardest multi-pitch on the island last September, this May the two British climbers decided to do the opposite to create an accessible, low-grade outing. Space Walk is located on the far right of sector Panorama and trends leftwards to reach its highest point breaching difficulties that never exceed French grade 5a climbing.
