Rock Junior 2013: day 1 kicks off with the Under 14 Cup
31/08/2013: the first day of Rock Junior begins today with Under 14 Cup and the Boulder and Speed disciplines.
Just a few minutes separate from the start of the 13th Rock Junior, with the first day of the Under 14 Cup. The start of the bouldering and speed competition is scheduled for 10.00am but climbers began to flock into the Climbing Stadium as early as 8.00am and the flow of youngsters hasn't stopped. Unsurprisingly, since almost 250 have registered for the competition. A record. Just like the record number of nations: 22. Which means that these young (aged 7 to 13) climbing athletes come from all over the world. And this isn't a simple set phrase, seeing that some have even travelled as far as the antipodes, ie Australia. This is the true power of Rock Junior.
So, seeing how many have gathered here already, today promises to be a real marathon. Until this evening the climbing will never stop. All will compete on the difficult boulder problems and race up the speed climb. Of course, the difficulties are proportional and reflect the three age groups. Category "A" is for those born from 2000 to 2001. "B" for those born from 2002 to 2003. While the youngest, born between 2004 - 2006 will compete in category "C". But in truth there's no need to say this because, apart from the difficulties and categories, this is a sports celebration and everyone will do their very best. Because this is the style of Rock Junior that, this year, is as red as the 2013 t-shirts.
