Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr win a Millau

09.04.2013 by Planetmountain

The second stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2013 was won on Saturday 6 April at Millau in France by the Austrians Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr.

Absolute domination. 15 World Cup stage victories for her. 19 for him. Which equate to 3 overall World Cups for her and 5 for him. We're obvioulsy talking about Anna Stöhr and Kilian Fischhuber, the talented Austrian duo who last Saturday won the second stage of the 2013 Bouldering World Cup at France's Millau.

In a competition which perhaps for the first time ever witnessed more female athletes than male, the queen of bouldering set the pace for the second time running this season (after qualifying last for the final) by beating the English boulderer Shauna Coxsey by just one attempt: both sent all four final problems and while Coxsey needed 14 attempts, Stöhr clinched victory with 13. Third place went to Japan's Akyio Noguchi with three tops, ahead of America's Alex Puccio, Germany's Juliane Wurm and Austria's Katharina Saurwein.

While Stöhr is currently plain sailing with full points in the WC ranking thanks to victory in Chongqing a fortnight ago, the same doesn't hold true for Fischhuber who had opted to miss out on this Chinese stage. This in some respects is a shame because at Millau Fischhuber demonstrated his true class and gave everyone a lesson in bouldering: in the final only he managed to send 3 of the 4 problems, while all others sent just 1. They were split, as usual, by the fateful bonus hold and Frenchman Guillaume Glairon Mondet slipped into second place thanks to his 4 bonus, ahead of evergreen Dutchman Jorg Verhoeven. These three were followed by Austria's Lukas Ennemoser and the two Russians Dmitrii Sharafutdinov and Rustam Gelmanov.

The third stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2013 will take place on 26 - 27 April in the lion's den, i.e. Kitzbühel in Austria. Will the absolute domination continue?
