The men's Open Bouldering competition got underway this morning. 60 athletes battled it out on six problems during the 2.5 hours. Only four place were up for grabs for the finals on Sunday, and unfortunately no Italian managed to qualify; Stefan Scarperi finished 8th. Good news for Japan's hopes with two athletes who, together with Gregor Vezonik from Slovenia and James Kassay from Australia, add their names to the list of other seven finalists: Dimitrii Sharafutdinov and Rustam Gelmanov from Russia, Jernej Kruder and Jeremy Bonder from Slovenia, Rei Sugimoto from Japan adn the Italians Gabriele Moroni and Michael Piccolruaz.

The women's event began at 15.00 sharp. Despite the large number of Italian athletes, no local hope managed to make it through to the next round. The Slovenian team proved once again to be a force to be reckoned with, thanks to Katja Kadic and Julija Kruder who both qualify for Sunday's event. They will be joined by the other two qualifiers, Ekaterina Andreeva from Russia and Sol Sa from Korea, and they will meet those invited to take part in the Sunday's final, namely Akiyo Noguchi, Alex Puccio, Fanny Gibert, Katharina Saurwein and Petra Kingler.
