The 44th Brenta Dolomites Ski Alp Race brought good luck to the Italian team as it clinched a historic victory during the final stage of the Ismf Ski World Cup which took place at Madonna di Campiglio early yesterday morning. Robert Antonioli won the spectacular Individual race after completing the 18 km and 1900 vertical height gain in just 1:36:06, 21 seconds ahead of Saturday’s Overall World Cup winner Michele Boscacci. Their teammate Matteo Eydallin secured the Italian hat-trick by placing third.

The women’s event was dominated by France’s Laetitia Roux who, after dealt with the 1500m vertical height gain, stopped the clocked after 1:24:41, a staggering 4:02 faster than Overall World Cup winner and teammate Axelle Mollaret. Italy’s Alba De Silvestro grit her teeth, in particular during the second half of the race where she overtook Switzerland’s Jennifer Fiechter, and placed third 4:54 after Roux.

This victory proved somewhat of a comeback for Robert Antonioli, penalised and excluded from the final stages of Friday night’s Sprint up through Canalone Miramonti. Antonioli dumped his disappointment and duelled with Michele Boscacci as they set a pace right from the outset that proved too blistering for the other athletes. After 4 ascents and 2 complicated climbs the two reached the last checkpoint at the same time but Antonioli removed his skins faster and charged downhill to cross the finish line and win the Individual race. Boscacci arrived 21 seconds later, followed by Matteo Eydallin, William Bon Mardion and Davide Magnini.
