Melloblocco... an end and new beginning

Melloblocco, the largest climbing meeting in the world that has taken place for 14 years in Val Masino - Val di Mello before going on tour to Cresciano in Switzerland, will not take place this May as per tradition.

Unfortunately it’s now official: Melloblocco will not take place in May. Neither in Val di Mello, the picturesque valley above Val Masino that in 2004 hosted what would transform in the next 14 years into the world’s biggest climbing and bouldering meeting, nor elsewhere, such as in Cresciano in Switzerland that welcomed the 15th edition last year. At present it is unclear whether Melloblocco will be held on another date or possibly even elsewhere, the only thing that is certain at this point it that the traditional May meeting will not take place.

It’s worth noting that during the traditional Melloblocco dates, ie 4 - 5 May, a different event will take place in Val di Mello. Called Freeblocco, this is a grassroots initiative to which everyone is invited. There are no rules and registration is not necessary. It is, if you want, an even more informal meet than Melloblocco, that stems from the wish to continue meeting up in Val di Mello to have climb, have fun, and respect nature.

Below is the brief statement that was published on the official website melloblocco.it, in the hope that Melloblocco in the near future will find its footing once again.

Melloblocco.it official statement
Dear friends,

after fourteen editions in Val Masino, even this year Melloblocco will not take place on the granite of the Valley.

Thank you all for being passionate protagonists and supporters of the meeting.

Melloblocco remind us the right to a mountain where the boulders, meadows, granite towers, waterfalls, large beeches and flowers are free to impart a undisturbed life lesson.

Melloblocco will remain as a testimony that all this is possible and is preparing to be an incubator of new initiatives, even small ones, but united by this common thought.

For now, Melloblocco offers the opportunity to participate in the story, to share gathering and climbing moments on the blocks scattered among different mountains, wherever they are.

Thanks again and good climbing.
