Tim Emmett and Klemen Premrl breakthrough with Interstellar Spice at Helmcken Falls

At the Helmcken Falls in Canada Tim Emmett and Klemen Premrl have made the first ascent of Interstellar Spice, a new ice climb they describe as setting "a new level of difficulty for any route of this style."

Britain’s Tim Emmett and Slovenia’s Klemen Premrl have come up trumps on their annual pilgrimage to the Helmcken Falls in Canada where they have both redpointed their new Interstellar Spice, an 80m spray ice climb that starts up Clash of the Titans before breaking off left and following 28 bolts to the lower off just below the lip of the cave.

Overhanging circa 40m, Interstellar Spice is decribed as being a "journey through multiple ice roofs, hanging daggers, mushrooms, snow ice, water ice, verglass and general outrageousness."

Clash of the Titans was established by Emmett and Premrl during the 2014 season, shortly before their first repeat of Will Gadd’s Overhead Hazard, while back in February 2012 the duo broke new ground with the the first ascent of Wolverine, at the time first WI 11 in the history of ice climbing. They now believe that their new Interstellar Spice takes things one stage further still and "sets a new level of difficulty for any route of this style."

Climbing with a specifically designed 200m rope, Emmett and Premrl required 4 and 5 attempts respectively, spread out over 7 days, for their team ascent.
