Why do products, such as neck warmers, under-helmet and headband in merino wool guarantee better performance than other types of natural and synthetic material? Because merino wool is highly breathable, it absorbs liquids quickly and dries in a wow! At this point, you are probably thinking "So what I usually wear do not fit? Is it wrong?" The answer is: “not always!” Polyamide products have several practical advantages, let's take nylon as an example: it is resistant, light, does not need to be ironed, nor should you fear that it will shrink with a wrong wash. Like merino wool the polyamide absorbs sweat, but unlike this material stays damp much longer then merino. What does this mean? That if you are climbing on a sunny and very hot day, you will have no problems, but if the weather changes quickly (just like in the mountains) you will not have the right protection from the wind or cold. Wearing a merino wool product when you practice sports leaves your skin dry and protects it from temperature changes. It also has a truly unique feature compared to all other fibers: it is antibacterial. This means that, even in the case of intense physical activity, merino wool does not retain odors and does not irritate the skin!

Merino wool sports accessories: when to use them?

If you are thinking that merino wool is only good when used for expensive snobbish sweaters, you are wrong! Elbec use merino wool to make very light accessories and apparels: we use an ultra-light fabric. Each meter square of this light fabric weighs only 100 grams.

That means Elbec headbands, caps and neck warmers are ideal for any type of outdoor activities! Initially we had conceived and designed them for certain types of activities, but with great surprise they have been appreciated them in many other utilities.

The extra light merino under helmet, for example, was born as an accessory for those who go climbing towards the end of September or early October, when it starts to get a little cooler. This at the beginning: then more and more customers told us to use it during walks or rides in the mountains or when it is particularly cold even under the most classic wool benies.

What merino wool does Elbec use?

As mentioned at the beginning, we rely on a wool supplier who carefully selects the breeders from whom to purchase the raw material. For our products we use premium merino wool with ZQ Natural Fiber certification: a guarantee of quality, sustainability and respect of the animal needs.

Thanks to the traceability of the products guaranteed by the partnership with ZQ Natural Fiber, we are able to trace the farms where the sheep from which the wool is obtained grow and we are sure to rely on farmers who do not practice mulesing and raise animals. with respect, care and love.

Finally, the ZQ Natural premium merino fiber fabric has also obtained the OEKO - TEX Standard 100 certification, this means that the yarns are not treated with harmful substances (recognized or not), harmful dyes or formaldehyde and others.
