Almost all climbers who travel to Chalten in Patagonia dream of ascending Cerro Torre, of standing on the summit of Fitz Roy or on some other beautiful peak located in this part of South America. Not so Switzerland's Fred Nicole and Germany's Toni Lamprecht who, true to their bouldering heart, have spent a month in Patagonia to explore these lands and to climb on the boulders dotted around El Chalten.

In truth bouldering at the end of the world is nothing new and - above all in recent years - the alpinists have kept themselves in shape by climbing numerous difficult problems while waiting for the famous weather windows before launching themselves upwards on the big mountain routes. Nevertheless Nicole and Lamprecht managed to find and free some new problems, such as El Condor and La Barba del diablo by Lamprecht and, for Nicole, El Galeon and Larten. The latter checks in at V13/8B and means "rock water" in Tehuelches, the language used by the native tribes of Patagonia. The name is chosen perfectly: every time Nicole tried the problem, it started to rain.
