Piolet d'Or 2011, the program

The program of the IXX Piolet d'Or which will be held in Courmayeur and Chamonix (Mont Blanc) from 13 - 16 April 2011. All the awards, conferences, lectures and debates of one of the most important mountaineering events in the world.

21.00 Cinema Vox - Chamonix - admission charged (8.50€)
- Ascension du Mont Blanc 1903 (10’) - the first filmed ascent of Mont Blanc
- Samsara (22’) - expedition to Mount Meru with Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin & Renan Ozturk
- The Swiss Machine (20’) - Ueli Steck: speed climber extraordinaire

21.00 Jardin de l’Ange - free admission
‘Ore indelebili nei nostri ricordi’: evening organised by CAI Turin, presentation of the new Gervasutti bivouac on the Fredboudze glacier. Celebration of the achievements of Giusto Gervasutti including the first ascent of the East face of the Grandes Jorasses in 1942.

21.00 Majestic Congress - free admission.
An audience with Greg Child - president of the Jury, author of Postcards from the Ledge and Over the Edge. Tribute to Maxime Belleville - nominated for the Piolets d’Or 2011 for Lunag I expedition.

‘Extraordinary Alpinism’ - presented by Kay Rush with Ivo Ferrari, Rossano Libera, Fabio Valseschini, Davide Capozzi and Francesco Civra (authors of several freeride first descents).

15 - 17.00 Selection of mountain films. Majestic Congress - free admission
17.00 Book fair & signings with Doug Scott, Greg Child & Sir Chris Bonington - a chance to meet some of the nominated alpinists and special guests
21.00 Piolets d’Or 2011 - the ascents of the year
