Markus Bock frees Matador 9a, Frankenjura

On 20/10/2007 Markus Bock made the first ascent of Matador 9a in the Frankenjura, Germany.

Markus Bock continues to dominate the Frankenjura scene. On Saturday 20 October the 28 year old made the first ascent of Matador 9a in the Frankenjura, after a three week trip to Yosemite and after having just missed the first ascent immediately before travelling to the States.

Markus describes the route, originally bolted by Markus Windisch, as follows: "After checking out the moves for the first time I realised that this route would check in at a high-level. In the beginning I managed to climb just a few of the 9 really bouldery starting moves. The crux moves are the first 7, and linking all 9 is definitely Font 8B. This boulder start is followed by another 11 moves to the top (circa 8a). This is one of my hardest routes to date and also one of the best looking hard climbs in Frankenjura."
