Stöhr and Meyer win in Grindelwald

The fourth round of the Bouldering World Cup 2006 held in Grindelwald, Switzerland on 11/06 was won by Jerome Meyer from France and Anna Stöhr.
Fourth round of the Bouldering World Cup 2006 to Meyer and Stöhr

With just three rounds to go this season, something happened in Switzerland's Grindelwald last weekend... yet everything remains the same in the Bouldering World Cup 2006. Jérôme Meyer from France, who has never missed a prime podium position this season, climbed brilliantly in the Final and sent all boulder problems to win his second World Cup event in 2006. After placing 1st in Birmingham, 2nd in Rovereto and 3rd in Veliko Tarnovo he continues to maintain his lead ahead of Kilian Fischhhuber who "only" placed 3rd ahead of the emerging Frenchman Loic Gadioz.

Meyer dominated supremely in the Final by producing the only grand slam (11 attmpets needed), while Gaidioz sent just two problems and Fischhuber, Glairon Mondet, Guillaum and Core sent just one. Despite failing to send any problems in the Final Rutam Gelmanov must neverthelss be highly satisfied with his best result to date, especially since he qualified just ahead of Tomasz Mrazek... no mean feat by any accounts.

There were no great earthquakes in the women's event either, which was won (not unexpectedly) by Anna Stöhr from Austria, ahead of Emilie Abgrall from France and Anja Hodann from Sweden. Current World Cup leader Olga Bibik failed to qualify for the final but nevertheless continues to lead the provisional ranking, 62 points ahead of closest rival Juliette Danion who failed to capitalise on Bibik's 0 boulders in the Semifinal to place 14th.

Apart from these Semifinal surprises Muriel Sarkany, the reborn queen of Lead, astounded all by sending 3 out of the 4 qualifying boulders. She eventually settled for 6th overall, just behind Elena Lipenska from the Czech Republic who sent one problem in the Final, and Yulia Abramchuk from Russia who sent two.

Fiera di Primiero in the Italian Dolomites is next on the agenda. Will Meyer continue to be the man to beat? Will Bibik and Danion return after their faux pas in Grindelwald? On 16th and 17th of June we'll know a whole lot more.
