Lake Nino
Interesting and varied walk that starts from the Poppaghia forest and leads past a rocky and arid valley to the idyllic Lac de Nino, where cows, goats and horses graze in a fairy-tale setting.
GETTING THERE
Reach Corte via the N193.
ACCESS
Take the D84 (Corte-Porto) for Col di Vergio, the watershed between Haute Corse and southern Corsica. Park the car in the obvious car park in the Poppaghia forest.
ROUTE
From the car park take the path southwards through the forest. Cross the forest track and continue zigzagging upwards to exit the forest. Say goodbye to the shade and follow the path past the solitary Berg de Colga (1411m) to reach the tiring, smooth slabs (slippery when wet). Cross these and scramble up to the final steep section to reach the col Bocca a Stazzona. Enjoy the splendid view onto the lake and then descend easily to the faint track which leads to the left-hand side of the lake.
Return via the ascent path.
GEAR
Normal hiking equipment.
