Grandiose and demanding ski mountaineering itinerary, comparable to Punta Oberettes. The descent is less demanding than the ascent as it is less continuous.
Access
Val Senales can be reached easily from Bolzano by taking the SS38 westwards to Merano and then Naturno. After Naturno turn off right for Val Senales and reach Maso Corto at the valley head (Bolzano - Senales 60 km). Itinerary
From Masi Kofler follow the wooden fence to the crossroads; follow signs for path No. 4-5 and ascend to the start of Valle del Lagaun. Follow this to the characteristic rocky pyramid which acts as a trigonometric marker. Ascend the large gully ahead and, climbing via a series of steeper sections and false plains, reach the upper section of Lagaun. From here head towards the rocky south face of Punta Saldura, circa 150m vertical meters height gain. From here, conditions depending, either a) ascend on foot up the centre of the face by choosing the easiest line of ascent, this nevertheless requires a minimum of mountaineering experience b) continue on foot to a snow gully which ascends diagonally right to the summit crest. Follow the line of ascent. Safe snow conditions permitting consider the amazing descent down the obvious gully, clearly visible during the ascent from the rocky pyramid. Slope angle circa 38-40°. Gear
