Marchegg
The little crag Marchegg was established in 2005 by the South Tyroleans Nereo Ongaro, Markus Huber and Michl Langes, all members of South Tyrolean Alpine Club. The south facing crag is located close to Maso Marchegg at 1900m altitude, 2km before the ski resort Maso Corto. The crag offers splendid views onto the Venosta Alps and the relatively easy routes render Marchegg ideal for beginners and families with children as there is marvelous meadow beneath the crag. Furthermore, there is also a great little Via Ferrata on the left-hand side of the crag.
GETTING THERE
Take the A22 motorway, exit at Bolzano Sud and head towards Merano. From merano continue into the Val Venosta, after Naturno drive into Val Senales and continue to km22, just before reaching the famous ski resort. A road on the right leads to Maso Marchegg, where you can park the car and get some refreshments. From here continue on foot for 10 minutes.
THE CLIMBING
Technical, varied climbing on good quality rock. Even the easier routes aren't that easy.
FOOD AND ACCOMODATION
There are numerous hotels in the valley or at Maso Corto close by, where there is also an area reserved for campers.
