Route
Beautiful icefall located close to Lochere close to Lake Caldonazzo in the Valsugana, right at the start of the narrow Val Scura. This drip rarely, if ever, comes into contiona and since it's situated at a low altitude it offers wettish ice which must be climbed with due care and attention only when conditions are 100% perfect.
Getting there
From Trento or Bassano del Grappa take the SS47 to Caldonazzo. From Lochere di Caldonazzo drive up the road to the first hair-pin bend and turn off onto the forest track which leads into Val Scura. Park in the layby immediately on the left. Access
Walk up to the icefall, clearly visibile from below, cross the river and scramble up the slope rightwards to reach a gully which leads easily to the start of the route (45 minutes). Itinerary
P1: 6+, 55m
P2: 5+, 55m
traverse left along ledge, 20m, 2°
P3: 5, 55m Descent
From the final pitch abseil off in-situ gear on pine tree on right, then 2 further abseils using Abalakov threads. Gear
Full ice climbing rack.
