Route

Nice outing into the quiet Valle di Mastaun, an ideal valley for ski mountaineering itineraries.
Access
Val Senales can be reached easily from Bolzano by taking the SS38 westwards to Merano and then Naturno. After Naturno turn off right for Val Senales and reach Maso Corto at the valley head (Bolzano - Senales 60 km). Itinerary
From Madonna di Senales ascend the private road to the Mastaun huts. At the first huts ascend right along the piste used for sledging which leads to the Mastaun shephard's hut. Head towards the center of the plateau, then continue left along the bottom of the valley until this opens up in all its stateliness, after being seemingly closed by a steep 30-32° 150m slope. Ascend this either in the center or of the right, snow conditions depending. A wide curve left brings you gently to the end of the valley. Our summit is the peak on the left, and this is climbed via the steep finishing slope. The view onto Valle di Mastuan and the Pinalto valley is extremely beautiful from here. Descent
Follow the line of ascent. Gear
Normal ski mountaineering equipment. Maps/Bibliography
Val Senales Tabacco 1:25000 foglio 04; Val Venosta Kompass.
