One crag that should not to be missed at San Vito Lo Capo is Calamancina, for those who love technical climbing by the sea. This crag was named after a small bay located directly under the crag. Divided into four sectors, it is one of the most popular on the Scogliera di Salinella. The most rewarding sector is sector D (Grotta), which hosts several classics such as “Cristo” (8a) or “Banana Biologica” (7a+) on a unique, red and white rock wall. Overall, it is a pleasant crag, suitable for beginners, ambitious climbers and families.

Access

From the center of San Vito first drive towards the harbor and then turn left onto via Calamancina. Pass a cemetery and continue following the road downwards. In a left curve, approximately 200 meters after the cemetery, turn right onto an unfortified road. Only 20 meters after go left in the direction of the sea. The first parking lot is located before the first prominent rock wall. As the road is very rocky and not suitable for all vehicles, cautious driving is recommended to reach the second parking lot. It is located near a small bay right across from the crag.

Approach: Across from the second parking lot in the bay is sector C. Sectors A and B are on the left of the bay. Sector D (Grotta) is to the right of sector C.

Period

The best season for climbing in San Vito is from October until April. Due to the variety of orientation of the crags, you can choose whether to climb in the sun or in the shade, depending on the season and the temperature.
