Last week Simon Gietl completed a new route up the Arête of the North-West Pillar of Peitlerkofel / Sass de Putia (2875m) in the Dolomites. The South Tyrolean mountaineer climbed alone and rope-solo and made one bivouac on the climb.
On Saturday 19 March 2022 Simon Gietl from the South Tyrol, Italy, made a solo winter ascent of Via Hruschka on the north face of Peitlerkofel / Sass de Putia in the Dolomites. The 37-year-old descended by paragliding off the summit.

At the end of December 2021, South Tyrolean mountaineers Simon Gietl and Jakob Steinkasserer made the first ascent of Focus, an ephemeral icefall close to Rein in Taufers / Riva di Tures in the Ahrntal Valle Aurina, Italy.
With the ascent of The Shroud route on the Grandes Jorasses in the Mont Blanc massif, Simon Gietl and Roger Schäli have completed North6, their project to climb the six most famous north faces of the Alps, traveling from one mountain to the next by bike. The two mountaineers required 18 days to climb the north faces of Cima Grande di Lavaredo, Pizzo Badile, Eiger, Matterhorn, Petit Dru and Grandes Jorasses.
With their ascent of Petit Dru in the Mont Blanc massif, Simon Gietl and Roger Schäli have now climbed five of the six great north faces of the Alps. After Cima Grande di Lavaredo, Pizzo Badile, Eiger, Matterhorn and Petit Dru, now the only peak missing off their list is the Grandes Jorasses.
After Cima Grande di Lavaredo, Pizzo Badile and the Eiger, alpinists Simon Gietl and Roger Schäli have now climbed the Matterhorn via the Schmid route. To complete their North6 project, only two famous north faces of the Alps are still missing off the list: Grandes Jorasses and Petit Dru.
As part of their North6 project to climb the six most famous north faces of the Alps while cycling between the mountains, Roger Schäli and Simon Gietl have now climbed Chant Du Cygne on the Eiger.

On 12 August 2021 on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Dolomites, Italy, mountaineers Simon Gietl and Nicolas Hojac climbed Via Cassin and Spigolo Demuth on Cima Ovest, Via Comici - Dimai and Spigolo Dibona on Cima Grande, and Spigolo Giallo and via Innerkofler on Cima Piccola in a mere 18 hours.
