This beautiful itinerary to the highest and most famous Slovenian peak is characterised by the splendid descent down the Za Cmiron valley. Given the considerable height gain we recommend you spend the night in the Triglavski Dom refuge (open all throughout the year) so as to reach the summit of Triglav early the next day.
Kranjska Gora is the base for this section of the Slovenian Alps. From Kranjska Gora drive to Mojstrana, then turn right for Val Vrata. Continue for 1.5 km to Aljazev Dom (altitude 950m), where a path leads off left to Dom Valentina Stanica.
Follow the path through the woods to reach the wide Za Cmiron valley after about 1 hour. Ascend this through beautiful terrain and a steep finale to reach the Begunjsca vratca saddle at 2342m, just before Dom Valentina Stanica 2332m. Continue left past the refuge in a long diagonal traverse beneath rocky walls to reach the wide saddle and Triglavski Dom 2515m. Leave your skis here and continue on foot along the path, equipped in sections with metal cables, first past Mali Triglav 2725m, then aloong the crest to reach the summit. A rope may be found useful.
Descend along the line of ascent.
Ice axe, crampons and rope.
