Route

This is an alternative for snowboard freaks and recommended only for expert skiers who have a very good head for heights. The snow must be particularly stable since the descent is on the lee slope of an enormous cornice of wind accumulated snow.

Getting there
By car: thanks to its central position Zürs can be easily reached from Germany, Switzerland and Italy.
Train: The Eurocity trains stop at St. Anton. Continue by bus to Zürs
Villages nearby
Klösterle (ideal for cheap accommodation), St. Anton Access
Trittkopf cable car Descent
From the top of the gondolalift climb leftwards to the device used to set off controlled avalanches. Continue along the side of the mountain to the summit in about 1/2 hour. Pay particular care not to walk too far westwards onto the crest. Snowshoes are recommended if there is no beaten track.

From the summit descend northwards (leftwards as seen from Zürs) to a very exposed ridge. When this widens descend westwards beneath the infamous cornice. From here ski down into the Pazieltal valley and then keep left to reach the pistes.

Finish: Trittalmbahn chairlift Gear
The itineraries can only be skied in good, stable snow conditions by advanced riders.
Highly recommended is a
rescue beacon and shovel.
Snowshoes are recommended for snowboarders if the track isn't hard packed enough Notes
Pay particular attention to the cornice situated above the descent Maps/Bibliography
Books: "Abseits der Piste rund um den Arlberg (Arlberg off-piste)" by Andy Thurner (also in English)
Map: Kompass nr. 33 Arlberg-Nördliche Verwallgruppe
