| This rectangular cliff is characterised by a large triangular roof at two- thirds height. The routes, all of which are well worth doing, are immaculately protected. Razor-sharp edges and shallow pockets festoon the vertical face and the overhanging yellow walls. To descend from the routes abseil down them or walk along the long path which leads from the top of the cliff to the road. Getting there From Chamonix drive to Sallanches and from here continue on the A-road towards Cluses. This road leads directly to the village Balme and the cliff itself. Turn off for Araches - Flaine and drive up the road, leaving the car on the hairpin bend beneath the cliff. Walk along the path at the base of the wall. After a few minutes walk leftwards up a gully to reach the pillar with the routes "Le vieux de la montagne" and "L'empire des sens". To get to the start of "Realte non ordinaire" continue rightwards and pass the large cave. 5 - 10 minutes. |
