Pietrele lui Solomon
Pietrele lui Solomon, located in the outskirts of Brasov, is one of the preferred places for those in search of a pleasant place to spend their weekend. In summer you can climb in the shade, while in early spring or late autumn the climbs are in the sun. A small river flows through the Pietrele lui Solomon area and there are lots of natural springs which make it ideal for camping.
GETTING THERE
Pietrele lui Solomon is located circa 15 minutes by car or 45 minutes on foot from the centre of Brasov. To reach the crag drive from Piata Sfatului, the heart of the medieval Brasov. Head to Piata Unirii along Baritiu Street. From Piata Unirii continue on Capitan Ilie Birt Street, and then on Vasile Saftu Street until you reach Piata Prundului. Continue on Pe Tocile Street and then Invatatorilor Street until you reach a country road. Drive along the river (heading SW) on the non-asphalted road to a big parking place where you must park the car (15 minutes drive). From here, follow the road that takes you to Pietrele lui Solomon (3 minutes walk).
THE CLIMBING
The rock is a good quality limestone and mostly features vertical or steep faces. The Traverseu sector is powerful and good for bouldering, too, while the Brana Sector requires stamina.
FOOD AND ACCOMODATION
Brasov offers various forms of accommodation, such as guest houses, hotels or hostels. You’ll find most of the accommodation located in the old town centre. The price for a double room at a guest house is about 100 lei (25 euro). For those who wish to camp or use a bungalow, the Dirste campsite is located to the south of Brasov.
