| Multi-pitch abseils - a step-by-step summary (one safety knot only) After having abseiled to the next belay, the manoevers are as follows: - Make safe using the daisy chain or sling - Remove the descender from the ropes - Fix the ropes and tell your partner that he/she may abseil - Thread the rope that needs to be pulled down (the one without the safety knot) from "below" and tie a safety knot in its end - Untie the safety knot from the other rope - Your partner abseils, arrives at the belay, makes safe and removes his/her descender from the ropes - Unfix the ropes but do not let them go - Pull the ropes, making sure they don't tangle or get caught - Throw the first rope down the line of abseil when the double overhand knot reaches the abseil anchor. Continue pulling until the other rope falls through - Tie a Marchand knot - Insert the descender - Unclip from the belay and begin the next abseil |
