Power and isolation. These are the words used by travellers and mountaineers to describe Monte Pelmo.
A beautiful and varied hike takes you round this imposing mountain in little more than five hours, past its yellow-tinted south face to a wide valley in the east, on to its craggy flank in the north and then to its severe NW face.
In reality, however, Monte Pelmo is composed of two distinct peaks, Pelmo and Pelmetto, separated by a wide gully that narrows into the scree-filled La Fisura saddle. The area immediately around Monte Pelmo, and that stretching NW to Mondevàl and Passo Giau, has been awarded international status thanks to its precious flora, fauna and biotopes which have died out elsewhere.
