|Recent outings to the crags show that the Italian Cristian Brenna has been training hard this winter. Here is a short update of some of his most significant repeats. |
Most newsworthy is the fact that Brenna has now onsighted over one hundred 8as. Recent onsights include 'Ali Agca' 8a+, 'Diavolina' 8a at Arco, 'Linea virtuale' 8a at Fonzaso, 'Guido io' 8a (his one hundredth) at Castelbianco and 'Ari-yama' 8a.
Italys top routes have taken a hammering lately. Two 8cs, 'Settimo senso', Cornalba and 'Alla ricerca della ventura', Sasso Pelo, were repeated and downgraded by Brenna to 8b+. At Bismantova he redpointed 'Fiorirosa' 8b, while in a whirlwind two day trip to the tiny 'Cubo' in the Aosta valley he redpointed 'La creazione' 8a+, 'Il tredicesimo guerriero' 8b/b+ and '4 Luglio', 8b/b+, sending these routes second go. 'La dura legge del cubo' 8b+ tested him a bit more, and he redpointed this one seventh go.
Two 8a boulder problem repeats show that he is equally at home on short problems: the highly popular 'La boule', which he believes is 8a and not 8a+, and 'Rondelle dura' 8a. Both are located at Cresciano, a popular boulder area for Italians situated, funnily enough, in Switzerland.
