Fred Nicole, the Swiss boulder specialist, has added an extension to one of Fontainebleau's hardest problems, 'Fatman' 8b.
First climbed in 1993 by Jacky Godoffe, this testpiece starts from a one-finger pocket beneath a roof and tops out on tiny edges eight moves higher. It has received a dozen or so ascents.
Fred Nicole's extension, added last month, ups the grade to a suggested Font 8b/b+. A relatively easy start is now followed by a long reach to the pocket and then the final moves.
