"The mountains are our last hope to save biodiversity, the mountains give more, there is more" is what Cesare explains as he walks along the steep slopes of Cordin de le Vette, high above his Feltrina valley, suspended between the earth and sky. Perhaps this is the meaning of this film, which tells the story of Cesare Lasen, the highly esteemed botanist, first President of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park and currently a member of the Scientific Committee of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. Throughout his life Lasen has published more than 240 scientific texts. But it all began with his roots and that mountain, San Mauro. A land and a mountain, both silent and secluded, a witness of a lesser known and perhaps even more real nature. It is here that Cesare was born "at 750m above sea level, overlooking the village Lasen, in an isolated rural house, the furthest from the village, without even running water or electricity. There wasn’t even road…" And it is here that he returned to be "closer to my roots, closer to where I come from." To walk. To liberate silences and spaces. To think… because movement generates knowledge.
