What initially started out as a joke has turned into a mass phenomenon that via the social media networks is taking the world by storm: the Ice Bucket Challenge, or put in other words, pouring ice cold water over one's head. It's a joke, but it's also serious as it's for a good cause: raising public awareness and raising funds in the battle against Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the rare neurodegenerative disease often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The challenge involves pouring the freezing cold water over your head or making a $100 donation towards scientific research, and then inviting friends to do the same. Many people obviously accept the challenge and make a donation nevertheless, and those who have taken part in this chain reaction include the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook who subsequently nominated Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft. Other stars include Lady Gaga, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mickey Rourke to name just three, but this initiative has also involved the climbing community including Canada's Sean McColl, America's Sasha DiGiulian and Spain's Edu Marin. The latter are currently in the Swiss Alps and, without a bucket at hand, Marin opted for a cold shower in the waterfall nearby...
