Jörg Guntram battles Ninja 8B+ at Tenerife
On 22/02/2013 Austrian boulderer Jörg Guntram made the first ascent of Ninja 8B+ on the island of Tenerife.
Bouldering on Tenerife? This beautiful island in the Canary archipelago is famous among rock climbers above all for its crags and sport climbs, but in truth the potential for bouldering is enormous. So much so that last February the extremely talented Austrian Jörg Guntram travelled there to check out some lines suggested by Walter Gollner, an Austrian friend and who has lived on the island for the last decade.
Guntram - known to all as Gu - is famous for the speed with which he sends even the hardest of problems, and the results came fast and furious: the first free ascents of Me Media Naranja (8A+), La Guancha (8A+) and A Lion´s Doupt (8A). And then, after four days of effort, Ninja 8B+. A true "King Line", a 10 year project with a massive starting move which the 24-year-old reckons could be 8B+. "Perhaps my hardest first ascent to date" Guntram told Planetmountain "And definitely my most beautiful!"
