"20 years and Fred Nicole, what else can you ask for!" Oh a beautiful day, psyched competitors and great rock climbing!" This, in short, is how Melissa Strong sums up Hueco Rock Rodeo, the bouldering event she helped organise which celebrated its 20th edition last weekend and which is, given it's longevity, one of the longest running outdoor climbing competitions and meetings.

The actual competition was won by Paul Robinson and Angie Payne. But one of the main objectives was to raise $10,000, an objective which was reached thanks to the generosity of all the climbers and sponsors who attended the event. $9000 were donated to Hueco Tanks State Historic Site and Park to help efforts to preserve the park, while the remaining $1000 went to the "Climbers of Hueco Tanks Coalition" for their project of getting climbing historically acknowledged in Hueco.

As if these exemplary climber-based efforts didn't suffice, it is worth noting that the Rock Rodeo was also hosted by the American Alpine Club which recently purchased the Hueco Rock Ranch, the iconic boulderers hangout that has now become a heritage of all climbers.
