Bouldering World Cup 2012 - Gelmanov and Markovic win in Log-Dragomer
Rustam Gelmanov and Mina Markovic have won the second stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2012 in Log-Dragomer (Slovenia) today.
The rain in Slovenia may have created some problems to the live webcast, but it certainly didn't bother the athletes too much today during the second stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2012 in Slovenia's Log-Dragomer, won by local Mina Markovic and Rustam Gelmanov from Russia.
Every time Markovic competes she impresses more and more and the winner of the Lead World Cup 2011 won this bouldering stage with a staggering four tops, two more that second and third placed Shauna Coxsey and Anna Stöhr who were separated by a single attempt more needed to top out. They were followed by the two Japanese climbers, Momoka Oda and Akiyo Noguchi (winner in China last week) and by Melissa Le Neve from France who failed to send a single problem, proving that the final was by no means easy and that Markovic is on astounding form. The Slovenian is currently second in the provisional ranking, a mere 4 points beind Akiyo Noguchi.
There was no clear-cut dominator in the men's competition and this went down to the wire: Gelmanov won with three problems in 4 attempts, while Austrian Kilian Fischhuber required 6 attempts and young Thomas Tauporn from Germany needed 9 to send the three problems. Reigning World Champion Dmitrii Sharafutdinov placed fourth with 2 tops, while after winning here last year, French guarantee Guillame Glairon Mondet finished fifth. The finals were completed with him once again, Lead World Cup 2011 winner Jakob Schubert who won in China last week and who didn't miss out on the chance of gaining vital World Cup points. The Austrian is currently second, just behind Gelmanov and ahead of Guillame Glairon Mondet.
The Italians produced the following results: Lucas Preti 18th, Stefan Scarperi 29th, Christian Core 49th, Francesco Vettorata 59th, while Jenny Lavarda placed 25th.
The next stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2012 will take place in Vienna on 27-28 April.
