Val Thorens off-piste skiing

Vallon du Lou and Vallon Polset, two off piste freeride itineraries introduced by Mountain Guide Paolo Tombini.
Val Thorens is located in the French region of Savoia and forms part of the famous ski resort "Trois Vallees". With more than 600km of pistes, this is hailed as the biggest ski resorts in the world and the vast area offers outstanding descents for freeriders of all ability levels. Here are two descents, one mid grade, the other advanced.

Vallon du Lou
Medium
Vallon du Lou is certainly one of the most beautiful and easiest off-piste descents in the Trois Vallees. Located far away from the lifts, this offers a solitary decent down moderately angled slopes to reach the enchanting Lac de Lou before returning to Val Thorens.

Vallon Polset
Very difficult the couloir variation, on the whole a difficult descent.
Vallon Polset is a beautiful descent, a long way away from the lifts, ideal for those searching for a complete and difficult descent with slopes up to 40°. After the brief ascent with climbing skins you need to carefully analyse the slope below. We recommend mountaineering equipment (rope, ice axe, crampons and harness) for rope manoeuvres in the couloir.

How to reach Val Thorens
From Italy drive through the Freyus tunnel, reach Modane, exit the motorway and take the RD1006 highway to reach Orelle (10 km). Park at the cable car.
