Grand Prize - Tamas —Frozen in Time
Nathalie Daoust
The 2009 Banff Mountain Photography Competition attracted over 4000 images from 600 photographers and was won by Nathalie Daoust with her image Frozen in Time. She commented "I sought to maintain not only the memory of the place, but also my own state of mind while contemplating the scenery: that of someone who felt suspended in time and trapped in a surreal world. These feelings arose from the discomforting perception of abandonment and desolation that appeared when facing a landscape that seemed flawless, physically creating a sensation that falls between lightness and restlessness. Artistic treatment: black and white photographs taken with a pinhole camera, subsequently hand-coloured."

The yearly Book and Film Festival is scheduled to take from 31 October to 8 November and this year's guest speakers include elite climbers Chris Sharma and Ueli Steck, legendary climber Royal Robbins, conservationist Mike Fay, extreme athlete Karina Hollekim and ultra-marathoner Dean Karnazes.
